How to Make
Herb Infused Oil

You can have a have a variety of infused oils on hand for you to use whenever you need them to use in a recipe. It isn't hard at all.

First just fill a jar (like a quart canning jar)
half full with a dried herb
or
full with a chopped fresh herb. Pack them into the jar loosely.
You will want to make a separate jar for each of the herb infused oils you want, that way you can combine them how you want for each recipe.

After your herbs are in the jars pour your oil over the herbs to the top of the jars. Do not use the oils from your grocery store shelves. These oils are usually highly refined and most often processed under high heat to produce a lighter oil. They contain preservatives such as BHA and BHT to prolong their shelf life indefinitely. They are less expensive than but you don't want to use them, use natural chemical free oils.

Use a spoon to stir and push the herbs into the oil so that they are completely in the oil.

Put a cloth or paper towel over the top and keep in place with the ring of the canning jar, or use a rubber band if you are not using a canning jar.

Let this set for at least 6 weeks, checking daily and stirring occacially to make sure the herbs stay in and are completely covered by the oil. If you need too, add more oil.

Then use a strainer and cheesecloth to strain your oils
Pour the oil back into jars, cap with a lid, and label and date them.

Olive oil, sweet almond, and sunflower are common oils good for this but use whatever kind of oil you want except for the solid oils. To use solid oil - like coconut oil or if you want a herb infused cocoa butter - you will have to heat the oil (a double boiler works great for this). Let the herbs simmer in the heated oil for a least one hour, then strain before it sets up. Just simmer the water under the oil, don't let it be a hard boil.

If you need some oil in a hurry you can make some herb infused oil without waiting for the 6 weeks by heating the oil like the above solid coconut, but using any oil you want and simmer it for at least an hour and letting it cool. If you have the time use the method where you let it sit for the 6 weeks instead of heating it, but if not go ahead and make some by heating it. It is better than not having any at all, like maybe you ran out of salve and need some more or something like that.

If you really like coconut oil get fractionated coconut oil which is a fluid coconut oil with an indefinite shelf life.

You can purchase fractionated cocount oil here.
